The Chicago Blackhawks’ season could not have ended with a more perfect goal. On April 15th, 2025, the Blackhawks faced the Ottawa Senators in their season finale. Tonight felt different for the Blackhawks as it was an opportunity to give their fans hope for the future of their franchise. The Blackhawks have an incredible future: Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, Kevin Korchinski, and the recently signed Ryan Greene. The list goes on.

The game opened with Connor Bedard scoring his 22nd goal of the season. What is important about that goal is the secondary assist, defenseman Kevin Korchinski. That is his first assist of the season. The Blackhawks' next goal was assisted by another member of the future, forward Oliver Moore. The end of the second period comes, and it is 2-1 Blackhawks. A huge period for the future of the Blackhawks. Sure, they had some help from veterans, but how else are they supposed to learn how to lead and be a team? Especially someone like Connor Bedard, who is expected to be the captain of the team in the near future.

The second period opened with a Senators goal that was quickly followed by a Blackhawks goal that gave the Hawks the lead back. Who scored the goal? Connor Bedard. Yet another member of the Blackhawks’ future contributed to the goal as a secondary assist. That being defenseman Sam Rinzel. The Senators eventually tied the game, which ended the second period. No goals were scored in the third, meaning we needed overtime.

Overtime could not have ended more perfectly for the Blackhawks. Within the first minute of OT, Bedard forces a turnover, drops the puck back to Nazar, who takes a snap shot and wins it for the Blackhawks in overtime. Nazar’s celebration? He points to Bedard. It felt poetic watching the entire play unfold that led to the goal by Nazar.

In a way, this is a glimmer of hope for Blackhawks fans. The future players are slowly starting to make themselves known, proving that they can make plays as good as the veterans on the team and communicate well with each other. While there are still lots of flaws within the Blackhawks’ team, they will be solved eventually. That could be something like more communication among teammates. I doubt it has something to do with skill-building. While there is room for improvement, the Blackhawks still have a great number of talented young players. Now, the main goal for the Blackhawks should be putting the pieces together and forming a well-communicated team.

There is no doubt that Connor Bedard and even Frank Nazar will be stars and leaders of the Blackhawks’ future, as people have started to compare them to former Blackhawks forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. But only time will tell the future for them and the Blackhawks.
